Dear AASA Members,
It’s already time to start planning the Arab American Studies Association’s presence at the 2024 meetings of the Middle Eastern Studies Association (MESA) and American Studies Association (ASA). MESA does not issue a theme for the conference, and the ASA theme is “Grounded Engagements in American Studies.” MESA will be held virtually (November 11-16, 2024), while the ASA will convene in Baltimore, Maryland (November 14-17, 2024).
The AASA, an affiliated organization, can sponsor two sessions and an additional professional development session at the ASA and three panels at MESA.
The AASA Board is soliciting fully-constituted panels for sponsorship. To be eligible for consideration for AASA sponsorship, at least one person in the session needs to be an AASA member. If you are interested in having your panel considered for AASA sponsorship, please send a brief proposal to circulate to the Board (deadlines are below). Please include a general description of the session, a list of participants, and a brief description of how the session interfaces with Arab American Studies.
Kindly send your proposals to Layla Goushey (secretary@arabamericanstudies.org) by January 29 for ASA and February 1 for MESA.
We’ll review and convey our decisions by February 6 for ASA and MESA.
