AASA Member Stacy Fahrenthold Publishes New Article in Journal of Global History

AASA member Stacy Fahrenthold has published a new article, “Former Ottomans in the ranks: pro-Entente military recruitment among Syrians in the Americas, 1916–18″ in the current issue of the Journal of Global History. Using the press writings and memoirs of Syrian American recruiters and immigrant enlistees, the article tracks the enlistment process that led an estimate 10,000 Syrian and Lebanese immigrants into military service with the Entente.
Stacy Fahrenthold is a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. A historian trained in global migration, transnational politics, and modern Syria and Lebanon, her research interests include World War I in the Middle East, Ottoman and Arab diasporas, Mediterranean history, and transnational protest and philanthropic practices. She received her Ph.D. in History at Northeastern University in 2014. She is currently finishing her first book, on the First World War in the Syrian Diaspora.
