From Linda Jacobs:
Dear fellow AASA Members:
I am pleased to offer you a complimentary desk copy of my new book, Strangers in the West: The Syrian Colony of New York City, 1880-1900. It is the first ethnography of this important center of the Arab diaspora in America, and tells the story of its inhabitants, their origins, why they came, and how they carved out a life for themselves in America. I have enclosed a packet of information about the book, two sample chapters, and some early endorsements.
For those of you teaching classes in Arab-American history, immigrant history, or ethnic history (not to mention urban history!), it would be a good addition to your reading list, and a good book to have in your university library. Please let me know if I can send you a copy.
