Palestinian Youth Movement: Refugee Crisis Report Back from Greece

As the label refugee robs thousands of their hopes, dreams and dignity, now more than ever we would love to bridge the gap of what is happening “over there” to our communities in the US. Millions of women, men and children have fled Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and many other countries as a result of war, siege, violence and an unparalleled economic crisis that makes staying alive in their homelands impossible. Though our communities in the US feel powerless in supporting our brothers and sisters in and leaving South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA), Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) and its partners offer the broader community information directly from the ground and methods of support.

This Ramadan, we ask our community to support our people who continue to suffer as the current number for the global refugee crisis now amounts to 59 million people. Join us as we screen Waiting at the Door, a short film made by Syrian American siblings Thawab and Akram Shibly as well as a report back on the conditions SWANA refugees are facing and resisting on the ground in Athens and the Island of Lesvos in Greece. All proceeds from the event will benefit our partner organizations on the ground in Greece who provide services through culturally relevant and sensitive approaches prioritizing methodological approaches that respect dignity and agency for the refugees.
