Through a partnership with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the School of Communication at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL offers a nationally or internationally recognized media maker, screenwriter, playwright, theatre artist, and/or scholar with screenings, productions, distribution, and publications, via recognized venues/outlets, to be in residence as an artist-scholar at Northwestern University. This person will be based in the School of Communication and have an appointment to the Department of Theatre, Radio-TV-Film, or Performance Studies as determined by the Dean of the School of Communication and will be expected to teach courses and be an active member of our community. The candidate may also be granted a coterminous appointment to an NU Program or Center that aligns with the candidate’s area of interest. Eligibility: Applicants must be facing or have recently fled from immediate, severe, and targeted threats to their lives and/or careers in their home countries or countries of residence. Candidates should provide documentation of such current or recent threat, ideally, a letter from the U.S. government or United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirming refugee status or pending refugee status; sponsorship by a recognized organization which deals with issues surrounding refugees; and/or should have their references address this aspect of their application in their letters. We reserve the right to determine eligibility. Applicants residing in foreign country would need to be sponsored by an organization, not Northwestern University, that specializes in refugee resettlement, however Northwestern University will assist in applying for an academic J-1 visa for the applicant. Ultimately, selection will be based on strong educational credentials and strong teaching credentials, experience, and evaluations. This person must be proficient in English and all classes must be taught in English. Appointment ideally starts January 1, 2017 for up to a year (although start date and length are negotiable).
