AASA Sessions at ASA 2020

A message from the Arab American Studies Association secretary, Keith Feldman:

Greetings,

What a year. What a month. 2020 cannot come soon enough…

It’s already time to start planning the Arab American Studies Association’s presence at the 2020 meeting of the American Studies Association. As you may know, the conference will be held in Baltimore from 12-15 November, under the banner “Creativity within Revolt.” The AASA is an affiliated organization, and can sponsor two sessions plus one “professional development” session. Last year, the Board agreed to send out a call for proposals based on themes we devised. Hence this message to you!

The AASA Board is soliciting fully-constituted panels or individual papers around one of the following three themes:

  • “The Borders of Arab American Studies”
  • “Arab American Studies, between Aesthetics and Archives”
  • “Abolition Democracy and the Futures of Arab American Studies”

Additionally, if you have a preformed panel on a different topic you think would be germane, please don’t hesitate to send that along for our consideration.

To be eligible for consideration for AASA sponsorship, at least one person on the session needs to be an AASA member. Kindly send your proposals to secretary@arabamericanstudies.org by January 17. We’ll review and convey our decisions by January 24.

Wishing you some time for rest and rejuvenation in the coming weeks.

Best regards,
Keith Feldman
Secretary, Arab American Studies Association
